Powerful performance falls a little short in Provincial Towns 2008
Despite great performances by everyone in the Woodenbridge Provincial Towns Team, their efforts fell just short in the 3rd round against one of the competition favourites , Coolattin. Having seen off the challenge of Djouce Mountain in difficult conditions, and of Kilcoole in balmy conditions on the 20th hole of the final match, we were hopeful of an extended run in the Provincial Towns. Secretly, managers and some team members even harboured thoughts of an historic win in this competition. But one last win, away at Coolattin, was needed.. Despite torrential rain, it looked promising as the final match between Tony Macken and one of the young hopefuls of Coolattin, went down the 19th. The epic continued on the 20th, when it seemed that Woodenbridge would prevail. Alas, the campaign was to end on the 21st, in darkness, wind and rain. Great credit is due to all who played on the team this year : Arnold Byrne, Conor Brennan, Damian Coyle, Declan Tanham, Eamon O'Shiel, Gary Ringwood, Jason Moran, Jim Kavanagh, Mark Burke, TJ Mernagh, Tony Macken, Tony Richardson and Trevor Prestage. There is also great promise for the future, with some young players coming on stream. Already we are gearing up for the 2009 season and looking at potential players. Rules: - • Handicap range must be 9 and above during the previous year • Must have played in 4 competitions the previous year without handicap falling below 8.5 (9) The introduction of a dual management has worked really well -- maybe other teams will examine the concept ? Looking forward to building on this achievement in 2009!

Junior Cup ( Venue Blainroe )
This event is played off scratch and is for players of 5 handicap and up. A strong Woodenbridge team took to the links at a windy Blainroe with a 7.00 am start and my thanks to them for their commitment to be there so early. A new departure this year meant a strokes qualifying round on Saturday with the top four teams qualifying to take part in matchplay the following day. We competed hard but did not make it into the top four. My thanks again to all the players : Eamonn Brandon Richard Fanning Niall Phelan Kevin Saunders Noel Shanahan

Cullen Trophy Report 2008
Preliminary round vs Boystown, received walkover. May 30th played Old Conna at home. They had taken us out of the competition last year so there was more than a little satisfaction in winning. We lost 3, 2 after epic struggle with one match finishing with a win on the 20th hole and the final match loosing on the 19th, but loosing to a birdie. Barton Shield
Arklow, a local venue gave the team high hopes entering into this foursomes event. The Barton Shield is played off scratch which requires our players to punch above their weight. This event was won by Woodenbridge when hosting it two years ago. A young Coolatin side proved too strong on the day in a close match. Liam Canning & Gavin Byrne Won 1 up Gavin Moran & Niall Phelan Lost 3 down Manager : T.J. Mernagh
Senior Cup
The Senior Cup was held this year in New Ross. Unfortunately, it clashed with our Captains Prize. A young team was sent down to represent us and can I say that they did us proud. Indeed, they gave a very strong Castlecomer side a real scare with Niall Phelan winning his match and all the others giving a very good account of themselves. The club should be proud to have such good golfers and fine young men coming through the ranks. My thanks to the players : Marcus Doyle Richard Fanning Enda Finan Niall Phelan Philip Tanham
